Monster High Party

Honey decided she wanted to celebrate her 5th birthday Monster High style! Originally I was happy and excited to be able to go to my local department store and just buy one of everything in the party section for the Monster High brand, but turns out they're not as popular as they once were and most of the goodies were discontinued and no longer available :(. So I hit up google and pinterest to find all sorts of lovelies and got to work customising them to make her day that little extra special.

We made photo booth masks from here and here

We played pin the bow on the skull based on this image

And I made food tents from the fan art from here and cupcake wrappers from here

Activity wise we had nail art (of course featuring my favourite Jamberry lacquers

A colouring station

A tatto station

And a card making station

The cake was the same mix as the patty cakes/zombie cakes, which also made an appearance at Kindy this past week. My first ever attempt at a marble and now I know I need to marble more ;-)

Happy 5th birthday my little Honey Bee!!!

Flutterbat Lunch

One of Miss M's favourite episodes of My Little Pony right now is the Flutterbat episode. I made this lunch in the lead up to Halloween, but Friday the 13th seemed just as appropriate to share :-)

The same week I also made an Apple Jack lunch for her, with most of the same ingredients.

Blinky Bill Lunch

I'd hoped to take Miss M to see the Blinky Bill movie over the holidays but we didn't quite make it there. No reason she couldn't have a Blinky Bill lunch though!

Yoghurt, Lamington (very Australian!), mandarin with tree and koala pick and CuteZCute Koala.

The same day Honey took a rice panda, mini lamingtons, CuteZCute koala sandwich, mandarin flower and yoghurt.

Is There Room on the Broom for a Lunch Like Me?

Have you read Room on the Broom? Or seen the short film? It is such a wonderful story, and my girls love it! I've been meaning to make a Room on the Broom lunch for some time and finally got around to it for BookWeek. The Easy Lunchbox was for Miss M
The witch had a *cat*, and a *very tall hat*, And *long ginger hair which she wore in a plait*.

CuteZCute Cat sandwich
Ice cream cone hat
Mandarin ginger plait
And Honey took the same but different.
I also included a cheese and breadstick 'wand' which gets lost in the story.
As does the bow from her plait.

And for Miss M's brain break I made some strawberry and mini-marshmallow mushrooms :-)

Details of my tools & toys can be found on this page.

The Croods Eep

Miss M has been a bit under the weather and has had some time at home recovering. One thing she's enjoyed is chilling in front of the TV watching movies - don't we all when we're sick? Her current favourite? The Croods! So I made her an Eep lunch to help her feel better :-)

Mandarin and blueberry, sandwich with tortilla art, milk in her Juice in the Box, her favourite bikkies & dip, and an ANZAC biscuit.

Details of my tools & toys can be found on this page.

Happy Bento Book Tour

Have you heard the buzz? There's a new Bento book on the shelves! I've loved Anna Adden's work over at Becoming a Bentoholic for some time now, and when the opportunity arose to review her new book Happy Bento!: Lunches on the Go I jumped at the chance.

Anna clearly & concisely walks you through the basics of Bento - from what it is and 'tools of the trade' to techniques to help you achieve the types of lunches pictured in her book. Basic Bentos, Fun Bentos, Special Days, and Season Bentos are all accompanied by crisp and colourful photos with each lunch detailing supplies, ingredients and directions. Where needed photo tutorials are also included. I love that this book covers everything from simple basic bentos and techniques through to somethings that are more advanced and complicated. Something for everyone!

I decided to replicate her Super Mario Bros inspired lunch, not only because it is so cute, but because I've been wanting to make one in my mushroom lunchbox ever since I got it!
I replaced the hotdogs in the book with corndog muffins as we've just been to the circus and I can't get that side-show staple Dagwood Dogs out of my head! Following the directions in the book made creating the Piranha Plant a breeze, although I used regular spaghetti instead of angel hair pasta and didn't cut the small circles from the plant which wold have made it that extra bit cuter.

I bought cherry tomatoes instead of grape but I still think they look quite cute, don't you?

I love this lunch so much I'm taking it to work for myself!

(By the way, if you're quick there's a copy of Happy Bento!: Lunches on the Go up for grabs on Becoming a Bentoholic right now - and the giveaway is open world wide! Check out this post for details.)

Easy Elsa Lunch

Miss M has decided to get on the Frozen bandwagon. She enjoyed the film when it first came out but she wasn't hit with the hysteria which followed which I must admit was nice. Now though, she has decided it's the best thing ever! This Easy Lunchbox is filled with pepperoni & cheese (crackers came later when I realised I forgot to pack them); strawberry & kiwi fruit snowflakes and Vegemite sandwich topped with cheat cheese art. Milk in her Juice in the Box. Not pictured the yoghurt pouch she took that day and water bottle too :-)

You can see where I smudged the cheese art and it didn't quite work - she looks like she's scowling. . . or maybe having a stroke o.O

Miss M didn't seem to notice - phew!

Little Charley Bear Quickie Lunch

A Little bonus lunch to remind you of our Juice in the Box #Giveaway that is ending this weekend!

Some pies and Juice in the Box milk are one of Honey's favourite lunches, and Little Charley Bear is one of her favourite shows! So for a day when she really didn't want to go to daycare it seemed an easy way to help her over that hurdle. And it worked!

She loved having a Charley sandwich in her lunchbox and the fact that she could see it through the lid also helped :-)
Some tomatoes, cheese and crackers for snack.
And some mix & match strawberry and kiwi fruit flowers.

Now, don't forget to enter our Giveaway in this previous post before it closes!!

My Girls Took a Stroll in the Deep Dark Wood

They each found a lunch, and the lunch was good!

This is the very first lunch that Honey took to daycare *sigh*. The Gruffalo has been one of her favourite books and I love the very clever mouse! I also love that I could replicate all the 'favourite food's from the story. . .

Owl Ice Cream (sandwich ball with ice cream cone and carrot)

Roasted Fox (ham, cheese, sultana and black sesame)
Mouse on a slice of bread (FooDoodler cheese art on a sandwich)

Gruffalo Crumble (single serve apple crumble with white chocolate & FooDoodler eyes)
Scrambled Snake (FooDoodler on apple skin)
The Nut - well, Honey's daycare is nut free so I substituted grapes instead.

I knew Miss M would want to join in the fun so I made her a Gruffalo Favourite Food Bento too.

Gruffalo Crumble (singel serve apple crumble with white chocolate & FooDoodler eyes)
Owl Ice Cream (sandwich ball with ice cream cone and carrot)

Mouse on a slice of bread (FooDoodler cheese art)
Nut (Bento pick)

Roasted Fox (pepperoni & cheese with FooDoodler)
Scrambled Snake (FooDoodler on apple skin)

And both girls got milk in their Juice in the Box. Which version do you like best?

Would you take your Juice in the Box on a stroll through the deep, dark wood?
I'm sure if you win one, a stroll would be good!
Details in this previous post!
