Monster High Party

Honey decided she wanted to celebrate her 5th birthday Monster High style! Originally I was happy and excited to be able to go to my local department store and just buy one of everything in the party section for the Monster High brand, but turns out they're not as popular as they once were and most of the goodies were discontinued and no longer available :(. So I hit up google and pinterest to find all sorts of lovelies and got to work customising them to make her day that little extra special.

We made photo booth masks from here and here

We played pin the bow on the skull based on this image

And I made food tents from the fan art from here and cupcake wrappers from here

Activity wise we had nail art (of course featuring my favourite Jamberry lacquers

A colouring station

A tatto station

And a card making station

The cake was the same mix as the patty cakes/zombie cakes, which also made an appearance at Kindy this past week. My first ever attempt at a marble and now I know I need to marble more ;-)

Happy 5th birthday my little Honey Bee!!!

Flutterbat Lunch

One of Miss M's favourite episodes of My Little Pony right now is the Flutterbat episode. I made this lunch in the lead up to Halloween, but Friday the 13th seemed just as appropriate to share :-)

The same week I also made an Apple Jack lunch for her, with most of the same ingredients.

Details of my tools & toys can be found on this page.

Halloween Lunches

We didn't really go all out with Halloween lunches this year, but I did make the girls little Jack-o-Lantern lunches for Honey's last day of the week.

Miss M had pumpkin scone with FooFoodler detail, passionfruit with yoghurt, sandwich and a Lindt ball and juice in her pimped Juice in the Box.
Honey also had a Jack-o-lantern sandwich and a pumpkin scone. The rest of her lunch consisted of leftovers, yoghurt and watermelon.
Miss M had show & share on Friday and the theme was 'Favourite Food'. She decided cake was her favourite food, so we whipped up a batch to share and I used our trusty Lunch Punch to give her one in her lunchbox too :-)

This was one of my lunches for the week.

Slinky Malinki Catflaps Lunch

Do you have any Slinky Malinki fans in your house? Miss M has enjoyed Hairy Maclary since she first read it three (really?!?!?) years ago. Recently Honey has been introduced to the wonderful world of Lynley Dodd through Slinky Malinki and Miss M has loved tagging along for the ride.

"They sat in the moonlight's silvery glow,
hobnobbing happily, ten in a row."

Some frozen yoghurt for our moon and some frozen blueberries for our night sky.
A mandarin with a cute leaf pick.

Some nori cutting and FooDoodler cheese art sit on top of a jam sandwich.
All in our EasyLunchBoxes.

Details of my tools & toys can be found on this page.

Witching You a Happy Halloween

We don't really 'do' Halloween much here in Australia although the trend is shifting. It depends largely on what the school is doing and this year Miss M is on a day off for Halloween so they aren't doing anything for it at all.

That doesn't mean she doesn't get a Halloween lunch though - and not just so I can join in with the Bento Bloggers & Friends for another brilliant blog hop. You can join in the fun too! Simply click on the button at the bottom of this post to see the next spooky creation. Keep hopping until you return here.

In our Easy Lunch Boxes Miss M has a jam sandwich topped with a bread crust witch. She was made using a cookie cutter and coloured with some FooDoodlers. A witch's hat adorns a cheese stick.

I picked up these cute little cauldrons from my local major grocer and filled with some grapes and blueberries - a.k.a. eye of newt ;-)

A simple pick in her yoghurt container. . .
. . . and some stars for the night sky. (Carrot and some dip in the box)
Witching you all a Happy Halloween!

Red Velvet Vampire Cupcakes

I know the idea of Vampire Cupcakes is nothing new. I really couldn't tell you if I saw the idea first, or if the Vampired mushroom I made for this Team Edward lunch was my first exposure to the concept, but here's my latest take on it.

I cheated and used a packet mix for these Red Velvet cupcakes. And when I found the box contained a mix for cream cheese icing who was I to argue?

Using a skewer and a dropper I added some holes to the icing and filled with some of my Kambrook Soup Simple strawberry sauce (which you can read about in this previous post)
I kind of like how the icing made little 'horns'. Do you have anything delicious planned for Halloween?

Last of the Halloween Lunches

I didn't quite get around to posting these this year, so I thought I'd save them for the next Friday the 13th. Lucky for me it wasn't too much of a wait & now it classifies as a Flashback Friday. . .well, it does in my book :-)
I did make some Mummy-Dogs last year and they were quite the hit, so I thought I'd do a repeat again this year to go with the little finger puppet I picked up from Big W.

This year I used a straw to cut the eyes from cheese & used black sesame seeds for detail. I also packed a little extra pasta and some tomato sauce.
This finger puppet from the same set was the inspiration for this sandwich. I must admit it turned out a lot creepier than I thought it would!
I used the lid of my Create-a-Shape rather than a cookie cutter because I was feeling lazy, and you can see that it didn't cut very cleanly.

There is a full slice of ham inside. Topped with cheese and ham cut using the Create-a-Shape and black sesame seeds add detail.
This was another day in Halloween week. . .

We had chicken schnitzel for dinner and I wanted to somehow incorporate the little green monster finger puppet here.
So half a schnitzel, topped with spinach tortilla, cheese, sultana and nori later, and there you have a mini monster. Is it just me, or does everyone know automatically think Mike Wazowski when they see a one-eyed green monster?

The little star container has some tomato sauce.
